I've been reading (Listening to) a lot of old science fiction stories from librivox. org. They have a large library of free books and short stories read by volunteers. It's almost like sitting around a camp fire listening to stories. I have my favorite readers, but enjoy the variety of accents and styles.
Urbana Sub Line just called. Gotta go to work will revise and finish later (I hope)...
I'm home. Had a great day at work...
Anyway, I listened to this story last night about how people in the future made gigantic machines to provide all the needs of everyone in the world. Something went wrong and all the people and machines were destroyed except for the taffy machine. It kept spewing out taffy for 100's of 1,000's of years. Tiny caterpillar like creatures finally evolved into living creatures and lived in caves, only coming out to feed on the taffy. An alien ship with a teacher and a student exploring the galaxy landed and began studying the machine and the creatures. I won't ruin the end for you, but it was a really good story.

PETER, PAUL & MARY ~ The Great Mandella ~

Quote: Robert E. Lee
“It is good that war is so horrible, or we might grow to like it.”
Movie: Anzio
First, the movie explores WHY men go to war, concluding that the main reason men and societies go to war is because they LIKE it. Robert Mitchum's character poses this question to a general early in the film, and the events in the film lead Mitchum to draw this conclusion at the end.

The Life of a Substitute Teacher
At Urbana High School
In the hall I am invisible.
Only on rare occasion does my cloak slip free,
And a student will see me and smile back.
Sometimes I am asked,” Where is room 1124?”
I don’t know, how dumb of me.
Don’t ask me about quadratic equations or que sara sara.
But ask me why I keep coming back.
I see kindness and joy in the hall.
Students are smarter than in my heyday.
A thirst to learn, if not from me.
And a hope for the future common to all.
They will find the answer, they always do.
Things will be better for friends, family and me,
Their hearts, soul and mind are burning.
That is all I want for the students, my reason I am there.
I try to remember a favorite quote:
“Don’t limit a child to your own learning
For she was born in another time.”
aka Mr. D
