I was walking the dog yesterday. The break of dawn had not yet begun, but there were stars and a bit of a moon and the following information came back to me after being hidden for many years:
1. When a flare goes off close or cover one eye so you don’t completely lose your night vision.
2. Your cones for color vision are located in the center of your eyes and the rods for black and white (used in night vision) are around the outer portion of your retina. In the dark concentrate on what you see in this portion of your eye. If you hear a sound don’t look directly at it, but scan around it focusing on the edges of your vision.
3. It takes several minutes of darkness to get your full night vision. It takes 5 to 10 minutes of darkness to mostly renew your night vision. It can take 30 minutes to fully renew your night vision.
There weren’t any flares yesterday morning but it was dark enough in the shadows that I couldn’t see Mia if I looked straight at her, but could see her if I looked to one side or the other.
