“Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture, and paintings. The meaning of art is explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics, whereas disciplines such as anthropology, sociology and psychology analyze its relationship with humans and generations.”

I hear often in the news “I may not be able to define art, but I know it when I see it (and that is not art!).” I was going to talk about “found art,” but the Wikipedia definition makes me wonder if there is such a thing. “That pile of scrap metal on the corner of Philo Road and Windsor is a recycling bin waiting to be hauled away.” I like the lines of the scrap metal. It is difficult for me to be sure which sense, emotion, or intellect it evokes, but I have a response every time I drive by it.
A feather is on the ground by an old window frame. Art???? Emotion? Yes. Hang the feather from the frame and hang the frame on the wall… Art? I think so.
