The teacher wanted the student to “deliberately” arrange items (words) in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect.” But the student didn’t give a damn and just wanted to get a passing grade. He being named Nick and I being named Nick, I found it as great art, but is art dependent on the artist’s intent? Can a monkey or elephant create art?
Certainly beauty can be created by a monkey, elephant or reluctant student, but I guess it is not art – lack of intent. But what about the person who creates art by deliberately arranging items in a way that is intended to influence and affect one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect? If it affects no one is it art? What if it affects one person?
Maybe art also is in the eye of the beholder.
