Oh what a day.
Actually three days. Check out Abe Martin State Park and Nashville, Indiana.
Georgia and I, Rob, Suzanne, Sarah, Kayla and Peyton rented a cabin in the biggest state park and woods in Indiana this past weekend. After yelling, “Look, a fawn,” and “look a woodpecker,” and look, “a raccoon,” the big joke (remember we are in this BIG woods) was to yell, “Look a tree.” The reply would be, “What tree?” I guess you had to be there, but the grandkids and I thought this was hilarious. This might have been because we watched “The Tooth Fairy” and Peyton and Kayla memorized the following dialogue:
“Amnesia dust, that’s how it works.” (Throws amnesia dust.)
“That’s how what works?”
“Amnesia dust, that’s how it works.”
“That’s how what works?”
“Amnesia dust, it never gets old.”
“What never gets old?”
Our cabin had two bedrooms with a balcony over the great room. The granddaughters and I enjoyed taking turns surprising each other with pillow bombs from the balcony. After much sighing I apologized to Sarah, Suzanne, and Rob. I forgot what great parents they are and that I am not one of Kayla’s or Peyton’s parents.
The Great room had two story glass windows and an outside balcony overlooking the forest. Two couches made out into double beds. There was a kitchen and dining room table, an easy chair, and other furnishings. We relaxed, ordered out for pizza and played games. Quelf for example.
Other highlights: The lodge house was built in the 1930’s (CCC) and has a very nice water park. Three times we went. It has a lazy river, a deeper swimming area with water basketball and water volleyball, a shallow beach entrance play area, a large hot tub and a great, tall, fast water slide. There is a great room with comfy soft seating around a large fireplace. Several people were relaxing and reading books. There is a gift shop and a nice restaurant where we had the deluxe breakfast buffet with a side of fried biscuits with cinnamon sugar and apple butter.
The park is less than a mile from Nashville, Indiana; an art colony with dozens of shops, some with artisans, some with antiques and many with lots of schlock. They also have two or three restaurants per block. There is a variety of entertainment. Great fun.
The best part was spending time with the family. We want to go back and visit more shops, take hikes, go horseback riding and spend more time with games and in the water park.
