I finally saw a hummingbird at my feeder. I was moved to write this ode.
Ode to the Ruby Throated Hummingbird
Oh my, Ruby Throated Hummingbird
I waited and waited so long
To watch your blurring, whirling dance
To hear your morning chee-dit song.
You came, Ruby Throated Hummingbird
And I, surprised and enthralled
Stood frozen as you danced just for me
Quick ballerina darting quantum leaps.
Then you were gone and I was alone
But left with the joy of your visit
And I will wait and wait
Until you come again.
Ode to the Ruby Throated Hummingbird
Oh my, Ruby Throated Hummingbird
I waited and waited so long
To watch your blurring, whirling dance
To hear your morning chee-dit song.
You came, Ruby Throated Hummingbird
And I, surprised and enthralled
Stood frozen as you danced just for me
Quick ballerina darting quantum leaps.
Then you were gone and I was alone
But left with the joy of your visit
And I will wait and wait
Until you come again.
