Missing from the house: shower and toilet, and potable water. There are several options for a toilet, but I plan on using a traditional outhouse. In the warmer months I would use a solar heated gravity shower. In the cold months I would use a wash tub. I could also wash clothes in the tub with a wash board. I could haul potable water from a neighbor (he wouldn't ask, but I would pay him a small sum.) Rain water: Average rainfall is 3" to 5" a month in my area. 80 sq. ft. would collect over 150 gallons a month for washing. There are 32 wooded acres so wood shouldn't be a problem. I would also like to have a small propane heater and stove for backup. | This tiny house is based on a Keter Stronghold 10 ft. x 8 ft. Resin Storage Shed. It comes with a floor and can be assembled in an afternoon so you could throw in a sleeping bag and mat and sleep there that night. Using mostly new material you could build this for under a $1,000. Purchasing everything (a full size futon bed/couch with a twin bunk, wood stove, small solar charger/crank/radio/light/phone charger, rain barrel, table) would cost less than $2,000. |
Other: I would like to add a screened in porch at a later date. I would want a carbon monoxide/fire detector. I would want a car which would likely double my living expenses. Phone with a large data plan would be costly. Flash: Would this be worth $130 to me? Washing machine, 5 liters of water, five minutes a load, no electricity/ |
