Dad thought if you found something you should keep it. You never knew when you might need that old bucket or chair without a bottom. A corollary to this was never throw anything away. As soon as you do you will need it. Waste not, want not. I have found this to be true over the years. I can keep a can of rusty screws and bolts for years and never use one. I throw them away and it's off to the hardware store. I've pretty much broke this habit, but there are times I need help to resist. I saw an old hair drier along the road near Liz's. The kind with a chair and a clear plastic dome that looked like a space helmet. If not for Liz and Georgia that baby would have been mine.
I took Mia to the vet today and there was this Norfolk Pine beside the road with boxes and garbage cans. The tree had a nice root ball but was not in a pot. The temperature was about 35 degrees, pretty cold for a Norfolk Pine.
I've made it my goal to try to save this tree. You never know when someone might need a Norfolk Pine.
