Blank verse poems by members of “If you grew up in Mt. Carmel, IL you remember when...”
If you grew up in Mt. Carmel, IL you remember when...
Does anyone remember
Mozel McCuiston?
Dad's little helper?
Don Daniel, PN Hirsch?
Marx and Haas is a factory
I didn't know about,
But my sisters remember
And bought clothes there.
I didn't grow up in Mt. Carmel
Nor have I ever lived there
But all of my family lives there
And I remember spending many summers.
There with my cousins.
We would go down to Ag days
And hit the city pool.
Do any of those things still exsist?
Double features on Fridays and Saturdays
At 2pm & 7pm
For the next couple weekends!
Tickets are only $5!
If you could remember back to the 50'a and 60's
When Christmas Eve the stores uptown
Would be wall to wall shoppers.
You could never find a parking place.
Here ya go Don Daniel
Did your cutlass look something like this?
Feel free to claim as your own,
I won't tell. LOL!!!!
Does anyone remember
The old switch board house
In between lick prairie church
And the quail club?
I remember when we had
drivers Ed in school,
Then health class
On what not to do in a car.
Saved our parents
The heart attack
Of teaching us how
To drive and also be safe.
The city boys
Are putting up the decorations
As I type.
Parade on Dec the 3rd @ 1100 am.
I liked going out to the college
And watching the go-cart races,
Then all sudden they
Quit having them.
Bob Walter said
Of the family business
From the cradle
To the grave.
Remember there used to be
An A&P grocery store
On 5th Street
Later was Key Market.
I used to always
Get in trouble
As a kid,
Messing' with the coffee grinders.
How many spent
The wee hours of the morning
At the walnut street diner,
All sober of course?
Would anyone have a picture
Of the old Cabbage Corner school house.
It was about seven miles north of Mt. Carmel
On the right before Sherrills Orchard.
