I don't think there has been a tax increase I ever didn't vote for, but ya know it ain't easy. This tax year we have had income from six sources and although I keep having more withheld each year I still owe 4 to 6 thousand dollars at the end of the year. I really think I owe it and it goes to a good cause (defense, healthcare, and education). I also don't mind the 2.25% increase in Illinois income tax. Our infrastructure is falling apart.
I just wish our tax system was simpler. Last year I tried two online services and a national tax service here and got a different amount each time, I finally paid the amount the tax service calculated and I got a small check back from the IRS saying I overpaid!
THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT, but I increased the amount taken out about this time last year. Then in 2010 I collected social security which was taxed, but no tax withheld, and Georgia got more hours at work with a big pay raise and here we are, owing several thousand again. I thought this might happen so we saved for it, but I was sure hoping I finally got it right.
I am increasing the withholding again this year. Remember, I am not complaining about paying the taxes, I just wish it was easier.
