February 1, 2020
Earl threw up most of them during the night and about 6:00 AM I got up and cleaned up the mess. He’s not feeling well (I’m not surprised.) I’m calling the vet at 8:00.
I’m reading.
The vet says he seems okay, no fever, no distended stomach. She gave him fluids under the skin to be sure he was hydrated and some pills for his stomach.
Peyton called at about eleven o’clock and asked if I would take her and friends swimming. (I said early I would take them if she wanted.) We went to the aquatics center but they were having a meet. We went to the U of I rec center but we needed an I card. We went to the YMCA and it was just right. I read, they swam. On the way home I picked up my free rewards Jimmy Johns sub then stopped at the DQ for a Cinnamon Roll milk shake. That took from 11:00 until 5:00.
I read and napped until bed time. I went to bed and read until the phone dropped out of my hand.
February 2, 2020
I slept late and got up and walked Earl. He seemed a lot better. Straightened the kitchen, started the dishwasher, and made coffee.
February 3, 2020
I mailed Valentines cards. If you didn’t get one that doesn’t mean I don’t love you!
Took the garbage and trash out and took it to the curb, cleaned the litter box, ordered anti-did-dig mats and Andrew Yang’s book, The War on Normal People. I listened to The Next Big Idea
I highly recommend it before you vote.
I’m about to take Earl on a short walk. I need to plan for St. Thomas tomorrow. Then I hope to read the rest of the day.
The Bradford Pear trees on the KRT are budding about 2 months early.
I found my first dead mole of the season.
February 4, 2020
Today is St. Thomas volunteer day. I spent a couple of hours planning a poetry lesson. As usual the kids enjoyed my presentation.
I have spent the last few hours editing and posting my January diary on my web page, and a little time repairing my owl and cleaning supper dishes.
I will read now!
February 5, 2020
We were supposed to have high winds and up to 5 inches of snow so I cancelled all activities and tried to do nothing today. I came pretty close. I spent all morning working on my web page. I was doing one tiny thing wrong so I couldn’t post pictures, but I finally remembered what I forgot. Next time it shouldn’t take me more than 10 or 15 minutes.
February 6, 2020
Sarah had to be to training by 7:30 so I went over and played with the kids awhile and took them to school. Peyton is getting so grown up and independent. The boys are just so darn cute. They were very happy all morning and enjoyed going to school.
I stopped at Walmart on the way home and bought a few things.
Again, I’ve wasted the day doing nothing, well a couple of things. I went through Quora and answered a few questions, played WWF, fixed the lid to the popcorn popper and emptied the dishwasher.
I have successfully avoided reading either of the two books I have started. One is a collection of SF short stories and the other is a nonfiction book, “The War in Normal People” by Andrew Yang. It’s just 5:30 so I hope to get lots of reading in- but it’s a good TV night.
February 7, 2020
Coffee, then Earl came in and we played a little fetch the chipmunk. I spent some time on the computer then went to the St. Joseph doctor’s off and Jessica drew some blood.
I started a walnut project but didn’t have enough walnuts and the yard was covered with a couple of inches of snow. I had cabin fever and went to town and picked up some cookies and prescriptions. By the time I got home the snow had melted enough that I could find a few walnuts. I fed the birds and cleaned the dog pen before I came back in.
I worked on the walnuts, they didn’t take long, but I need a cone. I also need a milkweed pod, but I have one of those. I read a couple of chapters from Andrew Yang’s book the decided to look at his healthcare plan. (Hint: don’t be careless and search for Wank healthcare plan instead of Yang healthcare plan.) I’m in bed now and am going to read myself to sleep reading old SF.
And that is that.
And so it goes.
Goodnight.

February 8, 2020
I read more of my books and watched another episode of “Little America”. I started work on a three headed monster, but didn’t have the right pine cone so I made a bird.
I didn’t realize Medicare went up so I underpaid last month. I fixed that.
February 9, 2020
Cleaned the kitchen, straightened the dining room, wrote a couple of short letters. Got another day older.
February 10, 2020
I put finishing touches on the Three Headed Creature (Monster?). The question now is, what will I do with it?
I went through books looking for something for tomorrow.

February 11, 2020
I got up at 5:30 and let Earl out/in, had half a cup of coffee and fell asleep on the couch.
I woke up at 7:00 and turned on the TV. The New Hampshire primary was being discussed. It got me thinking about Trump again.
I think all the Democratic candidates will improve the following grave problems of the Trump administration.
Listen to advisors. Have a stable honest staff. Have a plan for relationships with Iran and North Korea. Have a healthcare plan. Have a plan to mitigate climate change. Restore environmental regulations.
The list and plans will likely change with time but reasons for change will be clear.
List of things to do today: Practice reading today’s book, “Jamaica’s Blue Marker” by Mt. Carmel High School Graduate Juanita Havill. Clean up. Go to St. Thomas. Write a poem using rhyming words provided by the St. Thomas class. Go to Lincoln Square to see the photo exhibit. Pick up Emma after school.
Other: Picked up JJ’s for lunch and McDonalds for dinner.
February 12, 2020
From a travel ad: “Retirement doesn’t have to be all grandkids and TV.” Ha! Ha!
It took me a lot longer to finish my taxes than I thought it would. If you plan to use the Illinois Tax web site to do your Illinois Taxes be sure you have your federal tax finished and handy. Retirees in Illinois don’t pay state income tax so I thought it would be easy. Actually it was easy but there were a lot of blanks to fill in.

February 13, 2020 |
I spent a lot of time on the phone today; a pharmacist, the eye doctor’s assistant and a repairman.
I doctored Emma’s picture to include the whole family!
February 14, 2020
I gathered material for another bird.
We went to Scratch for a Valentines Day dinner. That’s a lot for someone who will be 72 in 8 days.
February 15, 2020
We took Peyton to the mall and met Ava and her family and Suzanne and Emma. We went grocery shopping. I’m still trying to grow a pine tree.
February 16, 2020
Epic TV is free this week. I have to look for programs to record. I want to finish the bird and do a few other tasks, but I also...
OH my, I fell asleep with my phone in my hand and erased 17, 18, and 19. The following is a reproduction from memory.
17 I slept until 10:30! I miss my daily walks but it is hard to get the energy to go out side. I could blame the weather, but I know that’s not true. Besides, my feet hurt.
18
Another good (1/2) day at St. Thomas. I rear Tuxedo Cat by Bill Berry to the K’s. And then, because that’s how it’s done, they did beginning sounds worksheets while I tried to distract them with silly questions and comments. I worked with each student to help them write their name legibly. They were all much improved. We will see what their names look like next week.
19 Cleaned and pressed some peach basket slats.

No plans today. Something will come up. It always does.
7:00am H->C->JH->H&H->C->H
9am Kid proofed a few things for this weekend.
Two, four, six, ate!
February 21, 2020
Tax refund check arrived! I can now pay some bills.
Previewed one of the groups singing for my birthday tomorrow.
The Extension Cords
I plan to spend the day cleaning for my Big Table surprise birthday party. (The party isn’t a surprise. The surprise is if anyone will come.)
It’s a beautiful day. I just don’t know how warm or windy it will be.
February 22, 2020
I moved the large rug in the living room four inches (10.16 cm) to the south. I finished the Teach Peace sign and cleaned the downstairs bathroom. Hauled out the garbage and a bunch of boxes. Picked up the yard. I am now (as promised) headed to the A Capella concert.
And that is another day in time for Nick Dalrymple.
February 23, 2020

Got that video finished!
Did a little preparing for St. Thomas tomorrow.
Finished “Teach Peace” sign.
Let Earl out and in.

February 25, 2020
I went to St. Thomas this morning. Books, books, books! Grocery store and home. I have no idea how I spent the rest of the day.
February 26, 2020
Snow! Just a couple of inches.
I took Peyton, Phoenix, and Link to school. Love those kids. I got a new pair of shoes for free.
I critiqued two short stories for Reedsy. I tried to be honest, but I should have been tougher.
So it goes.
February 27, 2020
I planned not to get out of bed today- except for necessities. I’ve done pretty well. Earl and I got up about 5:00 AM. I had coffee while Earl took a walk then we fell asleep on the couch. Except for those necessities (breakfast- cold cereal, lunch-leftovers, making and then eating chocolate chip cookies, and washing and pressing some peach basket slats) I’ve done pretty good, dozing on and off on the couch and reading. 3:40 PM
February 28, 2020
Nothing.
Nothing.
Nothing
Nothing.
Lunch with Suzanne!
Musical, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”
Kayla is in the cast.
When I got home from the musical this evening there was a pretty black and white feral cat in the front yard. It was eating a rabbit.
This should be the last entry for this month, but no! Someone had to slip in a extra day this year.
February 29, 2020
This and that. Wrote a couple emails, made an appointment. I went to the Cassem’s and watched the boys while Sarah, Dan and Peyton went to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I got in lots of good grandkids time. Kayla was in the musical.
Made supper, had a bowl of ice cream, read, watched TV and answered a couple of questions on Quora. Stewed over Trump, Coronavirus, South Carolina elections. ZZZzzz
